BORIIS: (Biota of Rhode Island Index System)

BORIIS (the Biota of Rhode Island Index System) indexes observations of species and natural communities in Rhode Island from a variety of sources including the Rhode Island Natural Heritage (aka “Rare Species”) Program and Database. BORIIS is used to answer “who, what, when, and where” questions about species and natural communities in Rhode Island. Appropriate users can query the index to advance research, education, and conservation. For more information, contact the Survey.

The present project is BORIIS2, a successor to BORIIS1, developed around 2004 using biodiversity data from prior Survey activities, the Rhode Island Natural Heritage Database, and other available sources. BORIIS2 development is funded by members and friends of the Natural History Survey, the RI Conservation Stewardship Collaborative, and the US Environmental Protection Agency through the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program.
