BORIIS: (Biota of Rhode Island Information System)

BORIIS stands for the Biota of Rhode Island Information System and it is a database that indexes observations of species and natural communities in Rhode Island from a variety of sources. BORIIS answers “who, what, when, and where” questions about species and natural communities in Rhode Island, and it identifies the source(s) of the information. Appropriate users can query the index to advance research, education, and conservation. BORIIS2 is the successor to BORIIS1 which was developed around 2004 and consisted of several Access databases coming out of prior Natural History Survey activities coordinated through a single front end. BORIIS2 development is funded by members and friends of the Natural History Survey, the RI Conservation Stewardship Collaborative, and the US Environmental Protection Agency through the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program. For more information, contact the Survey.
