Forest Health Works Project (FHWP)
In 2009, RINHS and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management collaborated to win a grant of $673,000 in federal stimulus funds from a competitive U.S. Forest Service program promoting forest health. The goal of FHWP was to offer economic support and job training to landscapers, foresters, and others hurt by the U.S. recession in order to map and eradicate invasive plants impairing the health of Rhode Island’s priority forests. We also sought to raise the overall priority of invasive plants as a public issue. The project concluded at the end of 2011.
