Block off Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9, because BioBlitz is coming! The 13th annual Rhode Island BioBlitz will be held in Jamestown beginning at 3 p.m., Friday, June 8 and ending at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 9. All attendees must pre-register. Registration opens soon.
There was an non-mandatory orientation for bioblitz, Thursday, May 3, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Roger Williams Park Zoo Environmental Education Center in Providence.

The BioBlitz will be surveying over six hundred acres spanning the center of Conanicut Island, including the Conanicut Island Sanctuary, Round Marsh/ Great Creek area, the four large farms and town’s South Pond reservoir. Habitats are diverse and include: tidal creek and salt marsh, coastal shoreline with a small barrier beach, extensive fresh water wetlands with wooded swamps, marsh, wet meadows, vernal pools, several small ponds and a reservoir. Terrestrial habitats include: coastal scrub shrub, herbaceous uplands, forested areas, open fields, pastures and actively farmed areas. The four active farms partnering with event sponsors, RINHS and the Town of Jamestown, Watson Farm, Dutra Farm, Windmist Farm & Hodgkiss Farm, will provide limited access to specified areas. Extensive trails will provide good access to the properties. Science Central will be located at Hodgkiss Farm, ample parking and camping areas will be available for all registered participants.
