On Thursday, May 3, there will be an orientation and social hour for the upcoming BioBlitz. The orientation is from 5:30 – 8:30 pm at the Roger Williams Park Zoo Environmental Education Center. Please RSVP to programadmin@rinhs.org or 401-874-5800.
The orientation is not mandatory for participation in bioblitz but if you’re not familiar with the bioblitz concept it is a good opportunity to learn about it. It is also a high point of the naturalists’ social calendar and a great time to catch up with friends and get excited about the end of winter and the start of another field season. The event is free. At this meeting you’ll hear from our local Jamestown hosts, see more detailed maps and engage in some team building discussions! Although exact team activity and composition depends on who shows up, this will give you a starting place to find your niche.
The bioblitz will be held in Jamestown, around Great Creek and in the farms north of it on June 8 and 9. The starting gun goes off at 3 p.m. and the event runs for 24 hours. How many species of life are there on Conanicut Island? If we can’t figure it out, no one can!
