RI BioBlitz final species lists starting to come in

Hellinsia homodactylus, BioBlitz 2012, Jamestown, RI

We just got the spider list for the Jamestown BioBlitz today. The count of Araneae (true spiders) species is 44, which is 10 higher than we had for all spiders and kin in the preliminary count. I have to check for double counting in the kin before it’s official, but it looks like this will raise the total count by at least 10 species.

You might be interested in looking at a blog report from someone on the marine fish team, Grace Lentini.
Read her post HERE.
It includes a great series of photos showing how to filet a flounder (the one that got counted for the BioBlitz). Is that recycling? Dual use? Or just delicious breaded and fried, with a squeeze of lemon?

The final moth count came in from Mark Mello earlier in the summer (Thanks, Mark) and that was 138 species, down a bit from the event count.

But over all the count’s still going in the right direction…the total is around 1,360 species in 24 hours. Stay tuned for events coming up in Jamestown where RINHS will be presenting more of the results.
